We bring together communal agencies, organizations and congregations to identify the needs of the vulnerable and determine how to address them. We partner with these organizations to ensure that the vulnerable in our community are taken care of and can live with dignity no matter what their circumstances.

Locally, we partner with many agencies to provide these services, including:

  • Bikur cholim
  • Angel View (Joel’s House and Friedman’s House)
  • Local Congregations
  • Jewish Family Service
  • Meals on Wheels

We ensure that services addressing a wide variety of issues facing the vulnerable in our community are provided: poverty, mental illness, hunger, medical and financial assistance, the ability of seniors to live independently and much more.

Housing and medical services for the elderly: Through the agencies we support seniors to have a safe and caring place to live when they can no longer live independently.

Transportation services: with JFS Desert, to help enable them to live independently.

  • Meals for seniors: Combined, many area agencies provide nutritional meals
  • Counseling services: Through Jewish Family Services are receiving assistance to cope with the stresses of life, family issues, illness or grief, receiving assistance and comfort when they need it most, regardless of their affiliation or financial situation.
  • Relieving suffering of those in poverty and by empowering low-income families to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency.
  • Ensuring the welfare of the elderly.
  • Enabling children with special needs and their families to thrive and participate in Jewish life.
  • Providing support services for those facing a family crisis, loss, or at the end of life.

How we accomplish this

Federation has raised funds to support of vitally needed services locally, in Israel and around the world. A member of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), we are among 150 Jewish Federations which together raise more than $3 billion annually to save lives and meet humanitarian needs. The Federation movement, collectively among the top 10 charities on the continent, protects and enhances the well being of Jews by giving life to the values of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and Tzedakah (charity and social justice).

  • Federation of the Desert allocates funds to Meals on Wheels, Temple Sinai's Mitzvah Food Bank.
  • The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee delivers kosher food and lifesaving medications to Jewish families and elderly throughout the Former Soviet Union,.
  • Fund weekly kosher meals to Desert Area seniors, and provide healthy, nutritious food to hungry people in Israel every day.

Counseling programs deals with a diversity of issues and helps people face life’s challenges such as; mental illness, anxiety depression, partner/marital conflict, death and grieving, illness among others.  Our elderly receive quality traditional Jewish services at the Assisted Living homes through Bikur Cholim, funded by the Jewish Federation of the Desert.   At risk Israeli youth are ensured safe haven and a new start at the "Futures" program

through JAFI (Jewish Agency for Israel).

We support annual site visits to the Museum of Tolerance to 400 8th grade students to educate

 them on tolerance and diversity.

  • Through Federation’s Special Tzedakah Fund, support for rent, utilities, food, prescription drugs, medical costs as well as funds for medical improvements for user-friendly living is provided.
